What’s everyone’s thoughts on the new tracks so far then? Are you excited for the album?
I’m liking the pop sensibilities and the general structure to the songs. Also enjoying the use of synths thus far. I think 85 videos is one of the best singles Mew has dropped. I think it may even be a stronger single than Satellites.
The lack of Bo…[Read more]

Thought i’d get a bit of a discussion going. Favourite song lyrically by Mew? And Why? At work I’ve been on song lyrics meanings reading other people’s interpretations and found some of the stuff really interesting. So I thought it would be cool to bring that over here.
I’ve always liked She Spider for it’s clever political message but I’ve also…[Read more]

I’ve always enjoyed Killer – the music and lyrics combined remind me heavily of the film Let the Right One in.

I also really enjoy The Seething Rain Weeps for You.

Seething Rain is one my absolute favourites.
Saw some interesting theories about what Killer is about. I’ve always taken it quite literally but some people have related it to the government.

Yes I have read that also, and can see it. Quite sinister either way, ha.

I’m not a huge fan of “Mica” on the whole, however the lines “‘Cause something about you compels me to feel / That a glued together vase is still a vase” always sticks with me. It really speaks to the idea that things can utterly destroy you as a person, you can feel like nothing is salvageable about yourself, but you have the ability to pick up t…[Read more]

My all time favorite line has always been ” I find you somewhere, and show you how much I care. Know that there is no, escape from my Snow Brigade”. Even though it’s kinda sound a bit ‘stalkerish’ and obsessive, but the simplicity and straight forwardness of the sentence combine with Jonas amazing voice kinda felt like genuine love & caring.

Got my ticket to the special evening with Mew in London. Can’t wait to see everyone. Only going on the Monday though unfortunately. I’m assuming most people here are going on both days? So hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you.

I remember listening to the original version of She Came Home for Christmas when I was about 13 and when Jonas sang those final words I was like ‘Wait. Wat.’ Thought my ears deceived me. Still find it funny to this day.
-
You had MUCH better musical taste at 13 than I did even at 23.
-
Haha, I stumbled really early due to spiderman 2.
-
Stumbled upon Mew* I don’t know why i’m still awake.
-
Seriously dude. It’s night even in my time zone!
-
-
-
-
from spiderman 2 too, high five!
-
When does SheSpider appear in the movie? Or is it just in the soundtrack?
-
It’s only in the soundtrack.
-
i can’t help but think they only put She Spider on the soundtracks because of the title.
-
What, a song about Danish xenophobia doesn’t fit perfectly into the Spiderman universe? 😀
-
Still glad they stuck it on there though haha.
-
-
-
-
-
I had absolutely no idea, that Mew had featured in Spider Man 2.
-
They weren’t in the movie at all. Just on the soundtrack for some weird reason.

Thanks for reminding me about this, @keirmartin. I was a little bit merry in London admittedly and I ended up telling Bo my favourite member of Mew was Silas. He said “mine too”. So now you know who Bo’s favourite member of Mew is.

which one are you?

The one with a bieber haircut.

Hi tatiana! I know you’re watching! 😉 make an account and say hello!

What was with Bo’s handbag he seemed to be carrying around BTW?

Bo does what he likes and doesn’t conform to gender stereotypes :p

Fair play.

What are you wearing? (what is that egg-sleeve?)

Been listening to +- a shed loads during revision and it’s slowly climbing up the ladder for me. Even songs like Witness and Waterslides which I weren’t too hot on at first are growing on me heavily.

Has anybody gotten a TNB mail? I can’t remember when they said we’d get replies.
@keirmartin, I’m still crying myself to sleep every night because of what you said. 😀-
I don’t think they’ve said a date yet and i’m so sorry for that :’)
-
They said at the latest we’d be contacted on the 8th, but it seems like that hasn’t happened yet? I haven’t seen any reports yet that anyone has gotten an email.
-
I remember the 8th as the date, too. Did they say that they’d send rejection letters, or just acceptance ones?
-
I think it said everyone will be contacted to keep everyone up to date?
-
I noticed the wording on the mew365.com site is slightly different now, so maybe they’re working on it.
-
-
-
kinda regretting my submission…i really don’t wanna blow my favourite band’s music video
-
Just heard from an Aussie frenger who was advised that she’s been selected! Yay!
I haven’t gotten an email though… Either they’re not done sending them all out, or I wasn’t selected :-/ Oh well…
-
Got an email this morning saying that I have been chosen to be part of the music video (cool stuff)! I got the email in my spam mail so maybe you should check that one too! 😉
-
Cool – so that would make you one of three MewX frengers (that we know of) representing us!

Just in case any of you missed this in the Frengers group on facebook:
Mitchel Kirk has covered some Mew before including Silas and the Magic Car and Eight Flew over. He makes some pretty good stuff. Should definitely check him out.
-
Holy shit. @_@ He’s incredible.
-
He linked me his soundcloud at some point. His original stuff is pretty great as well. I’ll see if I can dig up the link.
-
-
im a fan !!!!!
-
was about to post this, i remember posted his Magic Car cover to MewX facebook page
-
btw, what frengers group?
-
It has a sort of loose affiliation with this site in that many of the members here are also part of that group (but it’s far bigger than this site by numbers.) There’s quite a bit of cross-posting.
-
-
Uuh I lovede his Silas… Cover! This is really good as well! He is cool!
-
Another good one from Mr. Kirk. They should tour New Zealand just because of him 🙂

Just going to echo my earlier statement that I feel that in my opinion this is the best Mew album both thematically and technically.
-
I would agree… ATGHK was the album at which I discovered the band, and I very quickly fell in love. I was amazed by it, its daring and emotion and thoughtfulness. It holds a very special place in my heart. For some time I held it as my favourite album; certainly it’s still in my top 5.
-
Not that anyone cares, sorry, but I thought I’d decide what my top 5 albums actually are… In no particular order…
Silverchair – Diorama
Janelle Monae – The ArchAndroid
Passion Pit – Gossamer
Robyn – Body Talk
and of course ATGHK 🙂Last.fm users, friend me: http://www.last.fm/user/stefanoperfili
-
Most definitely interested in hearing more about other Frengers 🙂 And I like your list very much. The only one I haven’t heard is the Silverchair one but I’ll check it out.
My favourites are constantly shifting but without naming every Mew album i’d say right now:
Mew – ATGHK
Sigur Ros – Aegetis Byrjun
Delays – Faded Seaside Glamour
My…[Read more]-
Haha, yay! Yeah, ‘Diorama’ redefined what Silverchair was about, and others railed against it (an alt-grunge band suddenly going art-rock-baroque-pop?), but it was the boldest thing the writer had ever tried – to get out of his depression – he was going for genius, and I’d say he achieved it. I found the album when I was much younger but it was…[Read more]

Silverchair. You are so Australian.

-

Oh… I’d like to apologise on behalf of us all…
-
I prefer Neon Ballroom.
-
-
That Delays album is pretty great, I’ve been listening quite a bit, really liking it! Also I was surprised to discover the singer was male, coulda sworn it was a girl! Now, what band does that experience remind me of… hmmm… 😛
-
I’m glad you liked it! 🙂
-
I had an experience with this just yesterday. They played a Delays song on my local indie station (KEXP) and the DJ commented about the time he walked into their show at SXSW and noticed “THAT’S A DUDE UP THERE SINGING”. I was taken aback myself, I couldn’t believe it. And suddenly I was in love with another band.
-
-
-
My top 5 would be:
Kites
Portishead’s Third
Birdy’s s/t
Mr. Beast
xx
-
-
I have absolutely no idea what my favourites albums are, but I generally listen to pop and jazz more than anything else at the moment (though I can like anything else that comes its way).
-
I mean I don’t know because there are too many and they’re too different rather than I’m not very interested in music (quite the opposite).
-
-
-
I wholeheartedly agree with this, and it is also my favorite album of all time. My love for the band began with Zookeeper and I’ve never looked back since.
-
Now you speak of it… ATGHK must be my favourite album. In The world.

Best thing about + – on record is that rows takes up a side by itself. So it’s the last song on the record where it belong.

Everything about the album is perfect. Even the beautiful-ugly-aesthetic cover is the coolest cover I have ever seen. I think the cover sums up all the previous 3 album covers like the music sums up the best Mew qualities. It has got eggs from Stories, members from Kites, and a round black object in the middle from Frengers.
-
Just one thing bothers me, Help me out here! In the double deluxe version, there are 2 W:s where the upper one should be “-“? Do you think it is on purpose or mistake ..? It just could be that I am a nitpicker or is there a crack in perfection..? 😀 Or does it have a special meaning..? 😀
-
I have been thinking about this too!!
-
Damn you! I would probably not have noticed this! This is not just you – this is annoying!
-
it stands for wumbo. I wumbo. you wumbo. wumbology; the study of wumbo. it’s first grade.
-
Could be. OR it could mean
A: (W=Double U) signaling double deluxe album,
B: (W has got 4 matches in it so it could mean it is their 4th (international) release or (most likely)
C: W stands as a sign for “watt” like a battery and if we add + then it is positively charged and if we add – it is negatively charged 🙂 mystical indeed… maybe now…[Read more]-
Just one thing; there is a minus sign in the backside so the plus sign has got its pair anyway 🙂

It just that it had the minus sign in their official frontpage for months so it got stuck in my subconscious 🙂 anyway I know already that it is the

nope. definitely wumbo

What are the rules on discussing the Japanese bonus tracks?
-
No rules other than no illegal filesharing links.
-
Cool cool. I got them off Japanese iTunes after some effort and I have to say I really love them. Wish they were both on the vinyl.

Did you go through someone else to get them or manage to buy them directly yourself?

Bought them myself. Made a Japan account and bought a Japanese giftcard.

I’m glad Mew are still playing with hidden messages in reversed tracks.

Been listening all day on repeat from start to finish. Rows is still as good as the first time I listened to it. It really reminds me of a comforting sounds for the Kites era. The build in the song is fantastic and the final part at the end is also shiver inducing. It’s a shame it wasn’t longer really.
Also, Clinging to a Bad Dream hits hard in…[Read more]

“shame it wasn’t longer”? it’s a 10 minute song
-
Tero described it perfectly to me. It’s a 15 minute song trapped in a 11 minute one.
-
Also, ‘a shame’ probably wasn’t the right wording to use so let me rephrase. If it were longer i’d be completely happy with that as the song absolutely does not outstay it’s welcome.

Rows is absolutely amazing. Feels like it could be a follow on from ATGHK which is what I dreamed it would be. Love it. Love everything about it.
-
Goosebumps everywhere.
-
Jesus, the song keeps going and it doesn’t falter at any point. Rows has shot to the top of my favourite Mew songs and I’ve only listened to it once. It’s honestly in competition with Comforting Sounds now. Seriously, lost for words. I’m so happy.
-
I like to think of it as a 15-minute song trapped in 11 minutes. It’s too short.
-
I agree it definitely could have been longer.
-
-
-
-
Rows is really great. When NMS was released, I was initially a bit underwhelmed, because in my mind I had somehow built up this idea was if Mew were going to follow up to Kites, they would be taking the “prog” aspect even further. Anyhow, Rows is essentially the kind of song that I had hoped for, way back in 2007…

I don’t know if it’s me or the music thats changed – probably both. but I haven’t listened to a new mew as many times in so short time since no more stories days.
Right now I’m way too hyped for VISUALS – although I don’t seem to like the album title and many of the track titles on there
