@admin (sorry to reply up here..the comment I wanted to reply to only has the option to like) Which part of the Pacific Ocean has to be night? The party starts at 8am for at least one part of the Pacific Ocean 😀
NINE AM????????????? *grumbles* I hate time zone differences..I dont often see 9am unless I’m going to bed after being up all night 🙂 But I’ll be here too.
Nope, I can somehow bravely manage to awaken at that cruel hour in exchange for getting to enjoy the album with others whom I can squee and gush over favorite parts with. BUT! Next album..your time zones gets stuck with the early morning slot.. 🙂
For things like album release parties or any other special occasion we want to share, it would be awesome if we had something like an IRC channel or in site chat..but would it be used enough the rest of the time to make it worth the expense?
I made a FB event for it for easy sharing and inviting FB friends that arent members of this site since I didnt see an official mew x event for it yet https://www.facebook.com/events/983055815041050/
The cheapest options I can find are about $20/month, which seems a bit much to me. Many of them have “free” versions which lack features and limit the active users to 10.
Im guessing that only us old dinosaurs would be familiar enough with IRC ? We could always have a channel for the album release party. I know there’s a client for windows users and its already loaded in Linux platforms..I just don’t know about Mac users.
I reckon just find a free chatroom hosted elsewhere on IRC, and link to it in the ‘Events’ list maybe? Maybe some JavaScript IRC client we can use for it? This one seems awesome: https://kiwiirc.com/embedding
@Stef I tested and it started up just fine in Chrome so one wouldnt even need to download a client. Seems like an awesome idea!! I’ve never used Slack chat..would that be for chat within this site then?
Slack is a standalone chat client, much like IRC (but better.) You can run it in a browser or in a desktop app or mobile app. There are native clients for Windows, OSX, and iOS at the very least.
Is the 2nd of May (a week after release) not a bit late for listening party? Surely we’ve shared initial thoughts, reactions and opinions before hand on the site already?
Americans may not get it until the 28th, and the 2nd is the weekend after that. If we move it back a week, there’s a chance people won’t have received the album and will have to download it illegally.
We found a couple problems with the Plug.DJ platform. One is that if any of the YouTube tracks are blocked for any users, that would exclude them from listening. The other being that every track that we want to co-listen to would need to be uploaded as a YouTube video or SoundCloud track. We could do that though – upload the whole album as one long MP3 on SoundCloud (as audio is smaller than audio-and-video), tagged under different name (so it’s not a huge copyright issue), then restrict it to only be listenable by those with the link (so it’s not totally publicly accessible). But I imagine there might be copyright issues with that anyway, and I could be shot by Evil Office for thoughtcrimes at any momen-
If there is a legal, publicly-availably Spotify/SoundCloud stream uploaded by Mew that we can legally link to, then plug.dj is viable. Otherwise we can’t use it.
I’m bummed there’s no official SoundCloud stream, because plug.dj would have been so cool. I’m going to look into embedding something here like IRC as @stef mentioned above.

I mean the actual OCEAN. Though, Mew has a song called Hawaii, but they have very few fans around there.

8AM for me. Ouch!

If you Americans don’t like it you can search for an alternative. Either way it’s unfortunately unavoidable that someone’s going to be up late/early.

Yeah, the NIGHT just has to be Pacific Ocean. No other choice.

@solieri OK, I’ll put it in my diary for 2021.
7 years, 9 months ago
Okay, I’ll be there… even at 1 AM 😛
@webmaster, I know this is a long shot, but… Is there any chance of having a chat room on here? WP plugins that do it?
7 years, 9 months ago
@Stef, I’ll trade you 9am for 1am..1am is my early evening while 9 is like what having to get up at 4am is for regular people. 😀

How come?
7 years, 9 months ago
There are chat plugins, yes. Nothing free, however. If there is enough interest I’ll buy one. What do you guys think?

I met most of my best friends (including my ex-husband!) on an IRC channel!

We just recently switched over to Slack, which works really well and is free for a basic package. That would be a good, reasonable chat option.

Could also use tinychat, or what about plug dj for listening to the album?

@iamarhino Plug DJ is actually a really good idea.. it might be fun to have a Frenger station on there in general.

Oh, is plug.dj what turntable.fm turned into? I used to use that all the time. It’s tons of fun. I’m all for using this method!
7 years, 9 months ago
Plug.dj seems to take care of all our requirements. Simultaneously listening plus chat. I’m going to link to this on the event.
7 years, 9 months ago
We just need some way to upload the album to youtube or soundcloud without it being taken down.
7 years, 9 months ago
Okay well, it looks like this is in a legal grey-area, so I don’t think we can actually use this.

You can’t link to spotify on plug dj. Has to be YouTube or Soundcloud.
