Apparatjik

Interview with Johan Wohlert — September 24, 2008 — 17:43

The former bass player of Mew, Johan Wohlert shares his thoughts about his new band The Storm, about being a father and, of course… about Mew.

“The rest of the band wanted to write a new record and really try to give it a shot in America. It just seemed weird not to be a part of the making of a new record and then rejoin them.”

Project Apparatjik — September 22, 2008 — 19:51

Jonas Bjerre (Mew), Guy Berryman (Coldplay) and Magne Furuholmen (A-Ha) have formed a band together. The one-off band is called Apparatjik and their only song Ferreting can be found as an opening track from the charity album Songs for Survival. You may buy this double-CD next month in physical form, but it’s already out on iTunes. Click on the Amazon/Tribe-link on your left and listen to a 45-second clip from Ferreting where Jonas is respectively the vocalist. The song distantly resembles some of the b-sides of Mew. From the very same aforementioned link you’ll also find information on how to buy the song or the whole album.

KT Tunstall, Mystery Jets, Hot Chip, The Go! and Way Out West among others have also contributed to this double-CD. Ferreting – the first track – is the title song of Bruce Parry’s BBC documentary series Amazon and the final track is written by the legendary electromusic guru Mike Oldfield. Many of the songs are accompanied by samples of tribal songs Parry has recorded on his trips to the Amazon jungles. Earth music in the strictest meaning of the word.

MewX is here! — September 12, 2008 — 16:00

After a long break, MewX has finally returned. Originally in Finnish language only, the site opened on June 15th 2006 (under the name MewX.org). Now, we have added two important languages – English and Danish. The three different language groups may have different material in various categories, but the news should be the same. Version 2.0 of MewX is still under construction, unfortunately. We are still looking for album reviews and such. Add www.mewx.info to your bookmarks! Thanks to all the editors / designers who have helped to create this site so far!

We hope that you register to our mailing list. Therefore we may send you urgent mail on important issues. Only the bigger news are mailed, otherwise you need to check this site regularly.

Mew has been recording their upcoming – yet untitled – album in Brooklyn, New York City lately. The producer of the album is Rich Costey – the man behind Mew’s international debut album Frengers from 2003. Famous for being a fast producer, Costey has previously worked with Muse, Franz Ferdinand and Interpol among others.

MewX-team welcomes you to the magical world of Mew!
